Introduction | My interest in fashion came in second grade, when I saw my father using a nail as an alternative for a lost button to close his trousers. Still in school, I already took classes in couture hand and machine sewing and knitting. I continued designing and sewing garments throughout my whole life. My dream to do what I love so much professionally came true, when I started to study Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where I was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design Summa Cum Laude. Extracurricular Haute Couture and business classes built the foundation for my business SIEVERING Evening, Bridal, and Cocktail that I established in 2006. In 2008, I won the Supima Inaugural Design Competition for the best knit design. In the 2010 Fashion Group International Rising Star Award competition, I was chosen a finalist among Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, et al. I felt more than happy, when, in spring 2013, I got asked to act as Designer Critic and later the same year to also teach Fashion Design at my alma mater. |
Interests | SIEVERING Sievering is and old Viennese (Austria) wine village with a history finding its roots in Middle Ages and the Roman Empire. Not only that this village has such a long history, several famous songs were written about springtime in Sievering. My interests: As a Fashion Designer who studied Chemistry before studying Fashion Design, I am as much fascinated by the art of fashion design as I am by science and education. I feel very strongly that art and science cannot be separated as many examples show. The fit of a gown, the perspective in a painting and the rhythm in music all are important parts of the perfect art piece and all are based in science. I am convinced that both art and science need to have their equal places in education. Having access to both will open up the students' minds, enhance their creativity and will enable them to see things from different sides. |
Favorite Books | My very first book about fashion and craftsmanship is still my most favorite one. Zechlin "Werkbuch fuer Maedchen" I got it at the age of eight and still keep it like a treasure. My second favorite is a book about natural science that belonged to my father and is now on my bookshelf. I just loved to look at the pages with photos of gems. |
