Introduction Cathy Delacruz’ career might be considered “pretty cute”, and only in the most serious of ways. Growing up a Riot Grrrl in San Antonio, Texas was only the beginning of a raucous life-long journey in art, critical thought, and down and dirty fun. She earned a B.A. in Media Studies at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington in 2003, where she also made brooding short films in Super-8. The Olympia rain never quite washed out of her eyes, and neither did the peroxide blonde from her decidedly feminist hair. You might say that Cathy’s aesthetics rove between the poles of the melancholically morbid and the fabled territories of stand-up comedy. She’s comfortable in both places, as well as the borderlands in between. She is currently earning her second MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona in Tucson, her first MFA being in Visual Art and Film from the University of California, San Diego. She’s not addicted to school, but rather to mining artistic possibilities for their potential to hold her ballooning visions, comedic prophecies, and celebrations of the rare, beautiful and possibly dead.
