Introduction | Lifetime Student in school of Hard Knocks.Born in Troy NY home of UncleSam,FALLOUT Capital of the Nation(google"The Troy Incident")other places I called home; Tucson & Bullhead City, Az., Seattle,Wa.,Taos,Ojo Caliente &Santa Fe,NM, LasVegas,Searchlight,Goodsprings,Jean,& Laughlin,NV.,San Francisco, Ca.,Portland,Or.,just 2 name a few. Places I have worked are bars, horse & dog tracks and casinos, and, later in life, law firms & with lawyers. Now in retirement,I stay home & mind my little mini-farm. In my spare time I pretty much live vicariously through the wonders of the www. I guess you could say (ala Eddie Rabitt) that I am - bloggin my life away,....lookin for & workin towards a better day, ohhh yeah. But however you look at it, there aint no gettin' around it, I'm jus' an ole' x-hippy-chick, struggling ever "onward through the fog" of life,....still here, still standin,..still laughing, after all these crazy years, and whats more amazing yet, still with at least some functioning brain cells!(Though through absolutely no fault of my own. Thank U geezis or whatever powers that be!) |
Interests | I have always been interested in social justice issues and was one of the original members of the SDS (RPI Branch) and also was one of the first employees of the (then)newly formed govt watchdog committe, NYPIRG. I also did volunteer work for Dr. Alice Green's Center for Law & Justice, in Albany, NY. I enjoy writing, poetry & the arts. I have had some op-ed pieces appear in the Troy Record, the Albany Times Union & the Las Vegas Review Journal. I have had poetry published in various magazines and small presses, including "Selected Ooze" out of NYC, and one poem (Ode to Ezra Pound) was translated and published in an Italian rag I cant even say the name of, let alone spell. I have also had a piece in Gambling Times Magazine entitled, "Attitude, What Part Does it Play in You're Game?" I am also interested in history and historic preservation, social studies, human rights, politics (2 a certain extent)and, as stated above, the ARTS, of course, the arts; literary & expository writing, modernistic/beat/poetry (Ferlinghetti, Ginsburgh, Bukowski, etc.)/song/music/dance, painting, drawing / sketching, sculpting, photography, camping, hiking (at one time when I was able) & law/justice, Retributative / Divine & Social; Comparative Religions/Spiritualities, Philosophy, Ethics, earth/environmental/rural preservation/conservation & self-preservation (human rights again)and of course, animals/rights/welfare/advocacy/protection, in whatever its way, shape or form. Why? Because I TRULY believe that "The Greatness of a Nation and its Moral Progress can be Judged by the way it treats its animals." Ghandi said that, not I. |
Favorite Movies | The Misfits, Cool Hand Luke, Shawshank Redemption, 12 Angry Men, Grapes of Wrath, To Kill a Mockingbird, Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Streetcar Named Desire, Days of Wine and Roses, Of Human Bondage, Giant, The Long, Hot Summer, One Flew, Steel Magnolias, Food, Inc., Super-Size Me, Earthling, Gasland, Capitalism: A Love Affair, Zeitgeist The Movie, Tug-Boat Annie, Old Yeller, The Yearling, The Red Pony, Black Beauty, and a few more I cant think of right now... |
Favorite Music | I like all kinds of music from classical to country to old and new hard and soft rock, ..not too much for the rap/gangsta or heavy medal stuff (can only take so much of that!) but I like music & song with a social or moral message; music that motivates & inspires. Lately, CHUMBAWAMBA works for me, though I have heard of them being "sell-outs" to a big corporation, but I shall have to look into it more before forming an opinion. Still, their music and their ideals do inspire me. |
